The Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI) is a government entity operating under the umbrella of the Saudi Health Council. It functions on a national scale as a partner that supports healthcare facilities in both the public and private sectors to provide safe and high-quality medical care. The Center fulfills this mission by developing unified performance standards, conducting field evaluations, granting accreditation certificates, and monitoring performance.

The origins of CBAHI date back to 2001, when it began as an initiative aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services provided in hospitals across the Makkah Region (known as the Quality Program in Makkah Region). Due to the remarkable success of that initiative, the program was expanded to include all healthcare facilities across the Kingdom, and its name was changed to become the Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions.

In late 2013, a resolution by the Council of Ministers approved changing the name to the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI). Moreover, obtaining national accreditation became mandatory to promote and encourage broader participation from all healthcare sectors.
